Yu Jihui: “A Stinking Old Ninth – A Tale of the Coal Capital” (updated on July 2020)
Dwarf stopped me half way. He said to me,
“You haven’t gotten to the root of your problem.
You want to sneak off under the political label. You
must rewrite! Comrades, does he have to rewrite?”
“Yes, he must!”
Thus, I had to write again. This time, I got a
newspaper to copy and fill six pages of paper with
crap. To my astonishment, my writing was approved.
Both the hoodlums armed with Mao Zedong thought
and Dwarf were happy with me. Since then, I was
free. I was allowed to teach Chinese again.
After I successively made my third self-criticism,
Dwarf stood up and made a speech, “Comrades,” he
said. “You are young revolutionary soldiers. You
have high class consciousness. Anything which does
not conform to Mao Zedong thought can’t escape
your eyes. You are Chairman Mao’s good soldiers.
Chairman Mao needs you. Revolution needs you.
