“We are learning English!”
“Why don’t you study Chairman Mao’s book?”
We stammered.
Then he continued to say, “English is the
language of the USA. They are our worst enemy.
Why are you interested in it? Are you going to be a
spy for the USA? You must stop studying it
immediately.” With that, he ordered us go back to
our dormitory.
A few days later, Bear held a meeting and
denounced Xi Si and me publicly because we studied
English. Since then, we dared not study it any more.
