Yu Jihui: “A Stinking Old Ninth – A Tale of the Coal Capital” (updated on July 2020)

“Of course, all leaders must be Communist Party

               Members,” I cut him short.

“Don’t interrupt him. Go on speaking, please.

What about him?” Xiao Wang stopped me and urged

Bi Li. He laughed and then went on.

“He is over fifty. He seemed upright, honest and

decent. You know, I worked with some young

workers. When we rested, we would talk about

women. He would criticize us. He would say young

people should think more about political studies,

should make progress in politics, should take all their

possible free time to read Mao Zedong’s works,

shouldn’t always talk about women, shouldn’t think

about sex from time to time. We would say, ‘You

have had a wife already. You can play with her at

night. You don’t understand our single men’s agony.

As a Chinese proverb goes, a full man doesn’t know

the hunger a hungry man suffers.’
