good at writing articles of criticism. It was a time of

mass criticism. Leaders of all schools were regarded

as capitalist road takers. All experienced teachers

were White and Expert road takers. There were many

Rightists, teachers from landlord families, Bad

Elements… What’s more, there were many Stinking

Old Ninths. All these people needed to be criticized.

So writers of criticism were badly needed. He was

the product of the cultural revolution. In fact, he was

more a newspaper copyist than a talented writer.

Before he wrote an article, he would consult a

number of newspapers. Then he began to copy. He

was well informed and had many friends in the coal

mine. He was regarded as the successor of the head

master of the school. But he was also an abandoned

young man in his late twenties. But he seemed
