A Good Student of Mine

One afternoon in September of 1970, the head of

the school called a meeting. Before he delivered a

speech, he introduced a new teacher to us. A girl

stood up. She smiled shyly. I took a look at her and

was immediately startled. She was a beauty, but she

was not a typical Chinese beauty. She was delicate

and attractive. She was about twenty-three or twenty-

four years old. She had a pair of almond eyes and she

had a tall, slender figure with an oval face. Her skin

was as clean as ice and as pure as jade. She looked

rather comely. In one word, she was very lovely. All

the teachers and staff were amazed by her appearance.
