progress. Nowadays everybody is asking for progress.

If you don’t, you’ll fall behind. It’s very easy to be a

politically progressive teacher. So long as you often

read Mao’s works, often mouth beautiful words,

often make speeches at political meetings… you

could become a progressive teacher. Even if you

have no interest in doing those kinds of things, you

can pretend. Not everybody really has interest in

politics. Ninety percent of them were just pretending

to be progressive. If you don’t, you will be regarded

as a politically backward teacher. Once you are

regarded as a backward teacher, you will be in

trouble. Nowadays all the people are zealous for

progress. This is the tendency of the day. You should

conform yourself to the trend of the time. If you go

against it, you will be abandoned. To be honest, I
