Yu Jihui: “A Stinking Old Ninth – A Tale of the Coal Capital” (updated on July 2020)

spread to the ears of her husband, who was thousands

of kilometers away. He flew into such a rage that he

couldn’t control his passion. He asked for a week’s

leave and traveled back home secretly, without

advance notice. He decided to catch the adultery in

act. He loved his wife very much, but he was

exasperated by her betrayal. He arrived in his

hometown, Fushun, the coal capital, in the morning,

but stayed in one of his friend’s homes until 10pm.

He knocked the door hard, like playing a drum.

Black Peony had fallen asleep. She woke up with a

start and got up, draping a garment over her

shoulders to open the door. After she opened the

door her husband pushed her aside and rushed into

the room. He searched everywhere, like a hunting

dog. Then he asked Black Peony, who was as

dumbfounded as a wooden chicken, “Where is the

               adulterer?”
