Yu Jihui: “A Stinking Old Ninth – A Tale of the Coal Capital” (updated on July 2020)
I began to consider my future. I decided to leave
the place where I had been in trouble. I decided go to
the city called Spring City, in the Southwest, to make
a living. Half a year ago, I had been there to attend a
meeting. It was held in an engineering university. At
the meeting, I was lucky enough to get to know the
principal of that university. One day, he asked me
whether I could take over a class for an absent
teacher. I happily agreed. I was very successful for
that class and was warmly welcomed by the students.
That evening, the principal invited me to a dinner.
While we were enjoying the food, he told me why he
had asked me to give the students a lecture. He
actually wanted to check my teaching ability. He said
I was a good and talented teacher. I was the person
that they were badly in need of. He formally invited
me to work in their school. He said he would appoint
me as the chief of the foreign languages department.
