Yu Jihui: “A Stinking Old Ninth – A Tale of the Coal Capital” (updated on July 2020)

daughter. I went to her mother’s home and stayed

there only for two minutes. I carried my baby

daughter in my arms tightly for a while, gave her a

deep kiss and then gave her back to Xi Si. Then I

asked Xi Si which train she would take to Beijing

that night. She said she would take the train at 9 pm.

I went back home and lay on bed with tears in

eyes, realizing that my family was breaking up. At

7pm, I stood up and went to the railway station. I

went to the waiting room. It was full of passengers. I

took a seat on a long chair and fixing my eyes

towards the entrance. About half an hour later, Xi Si

and Glasses came in. Glasses carried my baby

daughter and Xi Si carried a travel bag. They looked

as if they were a real family.

I ran, desperately, back home. I was full of grief

               and indignation.
