Yu Jihui: “A Stinking Old Ninth – A Tale of the Coal Capital” (updated on July 2020)

told her how he had become an excellent soldier,

how he was concerned his comrade-in-arms, how he

won the honor of studying Chairman Mao’s works,

how he was loyal to Chairman Mao and the

Communist Party of China and how he had been

promoted to a regimental commander from a

common soldier… He was really a good speaker. He

talked passionately and without pause. While he was

speaking, he got a hold of one of Xi Si’s hands and

               caressed it.

Xi Si couldn’t bear it. She couldn’t sit still and

was itching to leave. The regimental commander

recognized it, even though he was half drunk. He

stopped half-way, surprised, with his eyes wide open.

Then he said, “You don’t have any interest in what

I’m saying, do you? I’m telling you my revolutionary

history and you don’t seem to be sharing any of these

               feelings with me!”
