Yu Jihui: “A Stinking Old Ninth – A Tale of the Coal Capital” (updated on July 2020)

forced him to go work at that workshop and make

harnesses. It was a sad story about the fate of a

university graduate. It was a story that showed how a

sledgehammer cracked a nut. If he refused to go to

that factory to work, he would have had no job for

the rest of his life. With no job, he would have died

of starvation. He wouldn’t be able to make money to

support his family! University graduates were indeed

               worthless at that time!

“How do you feel as a Stinking Old Ninth?”

“I don’t feel well with it. I think I have been

               discriminated against,” I said.

“Yes, you are discriminated against. You are

looked down upon, and so you are abandoned.

Nowadays Stinking Old Ninths are like rats running

across the street - everybody cries, “Kill them!”.

Fuck his mother! As an abandoned Stinking Old

Ninth, you want to marry me, don’t you?”
