had shown her true colours. To be frank, I was not
very happy with her. But I needed a wife badly. I
held back the dissatisfaction with great difficulty,
and I behaved obediently and listened to her patiently.
“Fuck his mother! Stinking Old Ninths are all
sexy wolves. They are a nuisance! Nowadays there
are too many of them!”
What she said was true. There were indeed too
many university graduates in society at that time. In
the Autumn of 1968, because of the Great Cultural
Revolution, the university graduates of 1966, 1967,
and 1968 graduated from their schools nearly at same
time. They rushed into various walks of life like a
swarm of bees. For some time, they were everywhere.
There were too many of them. They were Old
Bachelors. They were Stinking Old Ninths. They
were no longer the group of intelligent people to be
envied. They became worthless and were
