Yu Jihui: “A Stinking Old Ninth – A Tale of the Coal Capital” (updated on July 2020)
“Punch him!” people chimed in. They went all
out to support the weak Company Commander.
Some people began to punch and kick me.
“Please stop beating and kicking him! Words
will do!” a voice boomed. A big man stood out and
stopped the people beating me. I knew him. He was
my basketball buddy. We once played together for
our coal mine. He said, “We must first make things
clear. I don’t think this man is a Whitewasher. He
said he is a teacher. He looks honest. He won’t do
this kind of nasty thing!”
“He did Whitewash me! He is a Stinking Old
Ninth. He has been following me!” Company
Commander insisted.
“Turn him over to the police station!” people
shouted. They began to drag me.
