Yu Jihui: “A Stinking Old Ninth – A Tale of the Coal Capital” (updated on July 2020)

but I remained there. He got very angry and pulled

me so hard that he tore my collar. I flew into a rage

and fought with him. He was stronger than I, but I

was quicker. He was not able to control me. A

number of people rose together to help. They cuffed

and kicked me. I held my head tightly but still was

beaten black and blue. At this point Dwarf stopped

them, shouting, “No force! No force!”

They stopped beating me. I stood there, lowering

               my head.

I knew the cross-eyed teacher. He often insulted

me. I mentioned him at beginning of the book. I

nicknamed him as Squint. Squint used to be a worker

who dug coal in the coal pit, so he was very familiar

with the worker masters in our school, including

Dwarf. Dwarf revealed my romantic story in my file

to him so he could insult me publicly.
