Elephant went into Cock’s office to report. He

was eager to know Xi Si’s reply. Elephant reported,

“My kindness has come to no good! Nowadays while

all the girls of China want to marry PLA officers, she

has not shown any interest! I really don’t understand

her! She is a woman who doesn’t know how to

appreciate a favour!”

Cock thought for a moment and then said,

“Regardless of whether she has interest in the

regimental commander, give her a chance to see him.

Once she sees him, she’ll be happy.”

So, one day the regimental commander came to

our school. Accompanied by Cock and Elephant, he

came into the office where Xi Si was. It was lunch

time. The office was noisy. The teachers were talking,

laughing and smoking as usual. When the regimental

commander appeared in the office with Cock and

Elephant, the office suddenly became deathly quiet.
