abominate me at all. She seemed really hungry. Ten
minutes later, she had finished all of the supper I left:
half a steamed bread and half a tin of sorghum
porridge.
Then she said, “Soapy, I’ve eaten all of your
supper. I’m full and I feel warm now, but I’m afraid
that you will be hungry.”
“I’m all right. I’m all right! You were not
disgusted with me! I’m very happy today. I never
thought that in a world where I have been
discriminated against, there would be a person who
doesn’t put me down. I’m happy indeed!” I said,
happily and excitedly.
“Why are you discriminated against? I’ve heard
many romantic stories about you, but I don’t trust
them. Could you tell me something about yourself?”
I lowered my head and didn’t know what to say.
