Yu Jihui: “A Stinking Old Ninth – A Tale of the Coal Capital” (updated on July 2020)

she walked back into the small wood. I followed her.

Under a big tree she stopped and stared at me

affectionately. Her stare made my heart beat faster

again. Big Wang’s figure was fascinating. I did my

best to control myself and stood there motionlessly.

She might have been testing me again. She looked

               satisfied.

Then she said, “You’ve behaved yourself better

now. We talked enough today. I think I understand

you more or less. It’s late. I have to go back. I live in

a dormitory near here. If you are willing, we’ll meet

here at 6pm next Sunday. Are you willing to see me

here then?” She walked out of the park.

I followed her closely and said loudly, “I am

               willing. I am willing.”

She ignored my answer, stopped and stood there

thinking for a moment, then said, “You’ll have to

wait for my phone call. I’ll phone you if I still want
