sprinters, we fell far behind. Soon they disappeared
in the distance. We rushed about in darkness. We
stopped at a big tree, resting a little, puffing and
blowing, still panic-stricken. At the foot of the tree
sat another pair of lovers. They looked at us with
eyes as wide as eggs. We told them that we were
being chased after. The girl student uttered a cry in
panic and fainted. Then we continued to run blindly
and wildly, paying no attention to the girl in a stupor.
The wall of the park was very old. At one place, we
found a large hole on the wall. It was there that we
escaped.
On the road back to school, we could still hear
the thumping of our hearts. We stopped about forty
meters to the school gate. Under the bright gate
lamps, two security guards were questioning a pair of
students who had just come back from the woods.
