               pledged to break any relations with Squint from then


               on. But he dared not retaliate and hit back. He was



               not capable of being Squint’s opponent at all.



                       Logically, Squint should  have been  punished.


               But  this was during  the great cultural  revolution.


               Anarchy was in vogue. Fights  often took place. If



               you fought  a  person  but hadn’t  hurt him seriously,



               you wouldn’t get any punishment. So  those strong


               men could play the tyrant.



                       I knew Squint was jealous of me. He had even


               gone to the school head master to squeal on me. He
